Menarini Diagnostics, a company of the Menarini Group, launches the Leasy Kit.

Florence, April 16th, 2021 - Menarini Diagnostics, a company of the Menarini Group, launches the Leasy Kit, an innovative reagent, the result of its Research Department, totally "made in Italy", to isolate viral RNA from naso/oropharingeal swabs transport media. The advantages of the Leasy kit are  considerable reductions of time, work and resources needed for the process, while maintaining a high level of performance.

While traditional methods perform both a viral extraction and purification of RNA, with longer times and greater costs, the Menarini Research and Development teams have developed an innovative method to shorten the process. With Leasy Kit, the outer membrane of the virus is rapidly dissolved, releasing the RNA in solution with great speed, making it available for amplification with Covid-19 real time PCR tests.
To simplify, we can imagine that RNA is a ball inside a bottle with a narrow neck: with the traditional method, it must be extracted, while, with this new technique we break the bottle.

The new reagent, produced by Menarini Silicon Biosystems R&D in Bologna, is already in production in the specially designed laboratories in Pisa.
"Our Research and Development and Manufacturing teams have worked with determination, in recent months, to bring an innovative solution to the laboratories, that can minimize the time and costs of molecular routines, while ensuring accurate results and ample flexibility" commented Fabio Piazzalunga, General Manager of Menarini Diagnostics and President of Menarini Silicon Biosystems. “This is the first Menarini product in molecular diagnostics, entirely developed and produced in Italy. Thanks to the important investments made, we are able to offer innovative solutions that allow you to speed up times and reduce costs".
The Leasy, being a kit that can be used in combination with various amplification tests, is referred to as Research Use Only and requires simple laboratory validation to be used as part of its routines.
